APHIS continues to finalize the Business Plan to Advance Animal Disease Traceability, which recommends strategies and actions to harmonize existing animal health, marketing, and identification systems to improve U.S. infrastructure for animal disease traceability.
Before the end of the year, USDA intends to release a version of the report which outlines areas with actions where the advancement in traceability offers the greatest return on the invested resources. For a preview of the Business Plan's themes and strategies, we encourage you to read the "Advancing Animal Disease Traceability Overview and Synopsis" (PDF; 910KB) document.
As always, USDA wants to support you as you talk to producers in your State about the NAIS program's status. We encourage you to talk about traceability to your constituents and share the overview document. In light of recent disease outbreaks in the UK and even within the U.S., it is important to communicate the need for an advanced traceability system that will secure the livelihood of producers throughout the country.
