How to Purchase 840 Animal ID Devices

Individuals who decide to purchase official 840 animal ID devices for their animals can buy them from an AIN Device Manager or Reseller. These devices, known as "840 devices" because each number begins with the U.S. country code 840, can be purchased as follows.

• Determine that the type of identification devices you prefer are available.
  Currently, the official 840 devices are available for use with most species. Devices for use with additional species will be available soon. View a list of approved 840 devices. (PDF; 2,234KB)

• Obtain a Premises Identification Number (PIN).
  A PIN is required so that identified animals can be linked to their premises of origin. Contact your State or Tribal NAIS Administrator.

• Select the 840 device of your preference.
  840 devices are available in radio frequency identification (RFID) tags and injectable transponders. View a list of authorized 840 devices (PDF; 2,234 KB).

• Contact an AIN Device Manager or Reseller. Once you have selected the device of your preference, contact the manufacturer to obtain contact information for AIN Device Managers or Resellers in your area. View a list of 840 Device Manufacturers.

• Provide your PIN to the Device Manager or Reseller. The manager or reseller will confirm your PIN and will ship your devices to you.
